»IKAROS« ist der Name des Raumschiffs im DEFA-Film »Signale – Ein Weltraumabenteuer« (1970). Der Film gilt als Reaktion auf Stanley Kubricks »2001: Odyssee im Weltraum« und wurde mit großem Aufwand in Babelsberg und in Polen gedreht.
Nach Motiven aus Kurzgeschichten von Arthur C. Clarke (zufällig auch Autor der Vorlage für »2001«) entstand die hier gezeigte Fabel des ersten deutschen Kosmonauten Sigmund Jähn, der durch einen Rechenfehler des Robotron-Computers aus der Bahn gerät und in Anlehnung an die Story von »Good Bye, Lenin« den Systemwechsel in seiner Heimat nicht mitbekommen hat.
Ein Puppenstubenmann (1961) übernimmt die Rolle des Kosmonauten. Die Möblierung der Wohnzelle stammt ebenfalls aus jener Zeit. Die gezeigten Filmausschnitte sind zeitgenössische Originale.
„IKAROS“ is the name of a spacecraft in the GDR-produced SF movie „Signale – ein Weltraumabenteuer“ (1970). This very expensive production shot in Poland and GDR is considered an attempt to „one-up“ Stanley Kubrick’s „2001: A Space Odyssey“.
I used a hodgepodge concocted from several short stories by Arthur C. Clarke (incidentally, also the author of „2001“) to fantasize about the first German cosmonaut Sigmund Jähn who, caused by a computational error by the Robotron computer, gets catapulted out of orbit and spends so much time in space that he does not get aware of the political disruption in his home country (a similar story is told in the movie „Good Bye, Lenin“). The cosmonaut here is from a 1961 dollhouse, and so is most of the spacecraft’s furniture. The movie clips shown on the in-flight entertainment system are epoch correct.
